I would like to create courses that may be interested to people and i would like to sell them through your website. Are there any plans to allow the users to create courses and sell them through your website (profit split between super memo and course creator)
I've often thought about this. Doubtlessly it would cause a surge in creation of high-quality user courses. But at it's heart, the QA set is so simple that it can easily be copied and distributed without payment. Furthermore, in certain areas such as languages, it would be impossible to not copy the basic words from a pre-existing course.
While there are more pressing problems with the site interface as of now, in the long run finding a workable method to let users charge for their courses would have great benefits, if it can be done.
There are already commercial courses created by the users or partners available in the service (e.g. USMLE). Naturally the process of admitting such a course is more complex, as it should be complete (in certain terms at least), correct (factually and linguistically), and not violate copyright. You should contact the site administrator directly (e.g. through the "report a problem" mechanism below) with your proposition.
thanks for your opinion. i am just thinking that such a great learning tool should be used across many subjects giving people possibility to earn money
I agree, I'm sure there will be an automated path in the future.
Hi,
We are going to consider the possibility of selling users' courses. Probably, it will take a while to consider all pros and cons since implementing this idea is more complex and needs different organizational procedures. Firstly, we need to decide if this is the way we want to grow up the paltform and if it follows our strategy. Secondly, we keep trying to provide only best quality courses created by specialists and we want to keep it this way. Offering users' courses we do not have this guarantee (unless we check carefully the whole course - what takes a lot of effort). Finally, there are different issues with copyrights etc. that need further verification if we decide to implement this idea. As you can see there is a lot of questions that need to be answered within SuperMemo World before we can give this kind of option for users. If we decide to let users sell their courses I will let you know.
That is a very well-structured answer.
It's been about 6 months or so since this post. Would you provide an update on the status of adding said feature?
Such initiatives are considered individually by SuperMemo World. Please contact http://www.supermemo.eu/contact .
I am so happy to have found you guys. Whether you make a space for eduprenuers like me is ultimately up to you. I would challenge you in your paradigm "only the best-by the best". You may be going against the Tsunami wave that is coming to the traditional educational model. Everyone is becoming empowered by web 2.0 and 3.0 will be leveling the playing field and those that best allow all to participate will arguably be the "fittest to survive". It will be messy and rather anarchist in flavor but, I hope that you allow all to take advantage of the beautiful rebirth of supermemo you present herein.
In any case, I am sure that I will be introducing a truly "User friendly" application of supermemo. I hope that I can one day also find a way to stay financially viable. To have access to your platform would make my plans much easier to develop and test.
Thanks x 100 for what you have done so far.
God's speed to you and your company,
George Machlan
